Rob Ryan

I am in love yet again with Rob Ryan's paper work. Funnily enough I was already in love with his work, I just didn't know who he was. I'm very bad at that. I should look these people up. In my previous post on my favourite books I featured "The Book of Lost Things" by John Connolly, whose cover Rob Ryan designed, and through reading this month's issue of Computer Arts I saw some more of his work. To his website I went! Oh, how I'd love to create such visions! I'm gonna go buy all his work now!

An anxious blogger...

I'm feeling a little lost here, not knowing where to go with the whole blogging thing. Seems I take the attitude towards blogging that I do to design and everything else I do. It's frought with worry and doubt. And the wish to be original. Which is truely a pointless thing to try and achieve, originality. I guess a lot of original things can come out of "copying" something you like as you put your own spin on it. At least that's what I've read... Thoughts please...

Is "frought" a word?

So in my frantic way of trying to find something to blog, that will be of interest, I look back to the ol' internet bookmark archive and found these which I forgot how much I loved by ANTIGIRL. Anywhoo, advice on blogging, as you can see would me most welcome. I'm guessing you can tell I'm one of those people who like inspirational quotes...can I feel a blog coming on? I'm predictable so yes, that may well be my next blog. Hopefully I can find something other than just those "Keep calm and carry on" posters.

Anyway, some pretty pics...

Hanna Werning

I was aware of Hanna Werning's designs but didn't know who had made them until yesterday thanks to my friend Hannah! Especially love the Anna Sui Spring/Summer 08 pattern below. I want that dress. Looks like I am into fashion textiles after all, Hannah!

New Jewellery Crush

I'm a big fan of jewellery, and usually stick to the high street but have been finding it harder and harder to find 'special' jewellery. The kind you want to place carefully in a pretty, velvet-lined box, that which you would mourn for for days were you to lose it. So my mission for beautiful jewellery has started, and let me tell you, the internet is one big treasure trove.

My fave at the mo is Lee May Foster of Bonbi Forest. Truely precious designs. I want them!!! The website is really cool too.

Gorgeous paper sculptures

When in my Textiles class yesterday I spotted a Crafts magazine lying around with a wonderful picture of Su Blackwells Wild Flowers.

Isn't it amazing? I love books and consider cutting them a sacrilege but it can look so perfect and delicate. They're so magical!

Keri Smith

I've finally discovered Keri Smith's blog, I'm probably the last to know as always! But it is fab! I'd seen her illustrations and books around so I was immediately hooked and love her list of 100 ideas which are great if you're stuck for inspiration. Full of prompts to help you 'destroy' the book, but me being me wouldn't want to as it looks so lovely! Kind of defeats the object, I know!

I really want this book for Christmas!

What I'm currently reading...

The Ballad of Lee Cotton by Christopher Wilson.

Sadly, chosen purely on the cover! But it's always nice when the story matches up to the cover. This story is very Catcher in the Rye/Forrest Gump-esque. I like it, especially as it's written in a Southern American way and in my mind I have perfected the Southern drawl perfectly so it adds to the whole thing!

Available in all good bookstores!
